Thought that some of the Monroe Co. GenForum followers might like to know of the following document currently for sale on e-Bay (particularly if you have ties to the Vanstavern family): This is a Confederate document from Union Virginia/West Virginia. The neat part of this document is that it is dated March 22, 1864. West Virginia became a state on June 20th 1863. So evidentially the Confederates was minding the store in Monroe County at that given day. The note is numbered 224 and reads This will certify that N Vanstavern adm of Cornelius Vanstavern has paid in at this office one hundred dollars for which amount Registered Bonds of the Confederate States of America, bearing interest from this date, at the rate of four per cent per annum will be issued to him, under the "act to reduce the currency and to authorize a new issue of notes and bonds" approved February 17,1864, upon the surrender of this Certificate at this office JM Burnside depositary. Document has pink tint and measures approx 8 1/2 inches long X 4 inches wide Very good condition has 4 fold creases but displays flat very well. |
