Nadine, I sure wish I could have checked my email before I went to WV for the Labor Day weekend. I was just in Union, and could have asked some folks, since Rocky Point just doesn't sound right to me. I know where Rock Camp is between Raines Corner and Lindside, but that's the only "rocky" or "pointy" name that I can think of in or near Monroe County.
Now, since Monroe County Virginia became Monroe County West Virginia on June 20, 1863, and since breaking away from the Piedmont and Tidewater sections of Virginia had been long time issue of the mountain folks (since just after the revolution), I have to think that they would get the state right on a 1866 wedding entry.
Is the Monroe county abbreviated? Is the Virginia or West Virginia abbreviated? Is there any other geographic clue that might mean something, anything? How about Rocky Gap, VA, which is not all that far from Monroe County, probably a day's horseback ride.
Incidentally, Elizabeth Amanda doesn't ring any bells, but I will check when I get home at the end of the week. I promise I will try to remember, but I have to tell you that my memory, well, my memory is, well, what was I saying?
