Hi,I wonder if you could help me find some information regarding the Indian reservations that existed around Ada, Oklahoma in 1914?
My grandmother, reportedly worked for awhile in a boarding house on an Indian Reservation around Ada, OK about 1913-1914, some of her family lived there and may have been named Phillips. Could it that they(reservations) were broken up into allotments? Reportedly my several of my ancestors were Indian via family tales by our elders, although they cannot tell us exactly how. Some other facts, that may be useful to you.--- My grandmother received a settlement from the government regarding a treaty with the Shawnee Nation. It was so paltry and insulting that she refused it. A great-uncle, her brother, was approached by the Cherokee Nation offering membership because of his ancestorsin early 1900's. His father was named after Chief Osceola, by his mother, who was reported to have some Indian heritage. Another great-great grandmother was reported to be 1/2 Choctaw Indian.
None of this has been verified and we have no documented proof, but some members of the family have what is termed Indian features.
I am writing a book about my grandmother and am beginning to research her stay in Ada, Ok.
Any assistance you could offer or suggest, I would welcome. Thank you,
