The following obituary was printed in the Quenemo Republican 10 March 1898 Thursday. Quenemo Kansas (paper probably no longer in business) Wing was born in Rochester, Vermont, June 10th 1835, and died at his residence at one o'clock A.M. March 5 1898. His folks moved to Huron County, Ohio, when he was but a boy, and lived there until he was 21 years old. He Came to Kansas in 1856 and located near Baldwin City He was married to Mary E. Higgins January 11, 1859. To them were born three cildren, who are all living. He enllisted in the civil war in 1862 in the 2nd Kansas Ballery, L.A., and served until the close of the war in 1865. He located at his late home in the year 1880 and by untiring effort and economy has made a very pleasant home for himself and family, where once was the wild prairie. Mr. Wing was a kind husband and father, and a good citizen and neighbor. He will be greatly missed by his family, and that they have the sympathy of their many friends was apparent by the very large attendance at the funeral services, something over 300 people being present. Rev. Veile preached the funeral sermon on this subjet: Acquaint thy self with God, and gave on of the best talks we have heard for years. The remains were interred in the Connelly cemetery. Footnote: Connelly Cemetery is now call Pleasant View Cemetery and is located about 3 1/2 miles straight east of Melvern Kansas on the south side of the road. |
