Clarene, this is what I have found in the last year. I think there is a connection and I believe that Mary Rebecca could be a sister of Joel Wilson.
Joel Wilson had a brother named Silas Wilson who moved to Indiana. He died there in 1855, left a will and named were his brother Joel Wilson, sister Jane wife of Benjamin Hines and sister Catherine H. Coffey wife of Larkin Coffey. This came from message # 24136 on the Wilson board. Don Matson, who wrote the message, said that Joel Wilson was from Iredell Co. NC. I found a record of a deed for land that Joel Wilson bought that Silas Wilson witnessed. This was the same Joel Wilson that I am descended from. Also, the Coffeys were from Wilkes County, and Joel lived just below the Wilkes County line in Iredell County.
I am in the process of transcribing family wills from originals and found that Joel Wilson's will, probated in October, 1875, listed his trusted friend Alfred Heines. (see Benjamin Hines above)
Joel's wife was Melinda Graham. Melinda Graham's father's will was witnessed by Eleazas Marshall.
So I think there's definitely a family connection of some sort between Mary Rebecca Willson and our Joel Wilson. I have found Joel's name spelled as Willson on census records.
Unfortunately, we have no clue who Joel's father was.
I hope that this at least helps some and with this and any information you may have, further information can be found.
