Old Settlers’ Reunion
The old Settlers of Omro and vicinity gathered at Bushnell’s Hall yesterday forenoon, for their annual reunion. The cold weather, it was thought, would interfere considerably with the turnout, but such was not the case, as the hall was well filled. The gathering was called to order at about 10:30 by the Editor of the Journal. P. M. Wright was elected chairman, Rev. Woodhead, asst. After singing the doxology, Rev. Woodhead offered prayer. This was followed by the singing of more old fashioned familiar pieces. At this juncture Rev. Woodhead read an appropriate piece, entitled, The Old and The New. The gathering kept on increasing until dinner was called at 12:30, when over 150 took dinner. It was fully two o’clock before the eating part of the day’s exercises were finished. Following this came an experience meeting to determine who of those present came to this vicinity the earliest. Below we give the names and dates of the arrival of those who gave the date of their arrival: Gilman Lowd, Apr. 6, 1847; John S. Johnson, March 12, 1846; H. Hamilton, 1852; Cyrus Bradish, 1863; Mrs. Tanner, State 1841, Omro 1849; N. Olin, Oct. 31, 1846; E. B. Thrall, June 9, 1846; N. Frank,1850; Rev. Woodhead, State 1845. It was very interesting to listen to the experiences of the early settlers, and the time was too short to carry out this part of the program. At 3 o’clock, after fixing the time for the next meeting at Feb. 1, 1894, the reunion of 1893 came to an end. It was a complete success all around, and those who took part will long remember the day.
