OBITUARY
Last Monday morning at four o'clock, our dear school-mate Mattie Welton breathed her last. She had been sick about three weeks of lung fever which finaly terminated in pneumonia.
Her loss is deeply felt by the whole school, and has cast a gloom of sadness over all who knew her.
Mattie was one of those girls who meant to do her whole duty faithfully and well. Her deportment in school was always excellent, her lessons were well learned, and her relations with her school-mates of the most pleasant character.
She was kind and agreeable to all about her, and we can but feel that we have met with a great loss. But our loss is her gain, for, though an orphan here, she is now with the kind and loving Father whose heart is great enough to take into its love all the suffering ones of a universe.
WHEREAS, The Father above has seen fit in his providence to remove from our number, by death, one of our school-mates, Mattie Welton, therefore,
Resolved, That we hereby express our deep sorrow for the loss of one of our best students and truest friends; and that we also tender our heartfelt sympathy to her mourning friends; especially her sister and our friend Elsie; also,
Resloved, That our gratitude is due to those who have been so generous and kind to her in her sickness, and who have done all in their power to fill the place of parents to our dear orphaned school-mate.
