The Biography of Marion Taylor Miss Saxton, teacher of the Grammer (sic) Dept. of the High school, requested each of the pupils of the 8th grade, to write a biography, and among them, the following was considered one of the best. I was born in the year 1883 in a farm house on the straight South road from the village, on the evening of June 29th, nearly fifteen years ago. I was always a sickly child, and as my knees were weak, I could not walk much before I was seven years old, therefore never went to school before I was nine. As I was the sixth daughter of a large family of children, I have never gone anywhere because I was too large to go with mother when she took the younger children and too young to go with my sisters. I was never a bright scholar and have not much improved but I never had to wear a dunce cap but once, and then the rest of the class had to, too, for not having the tables. Another time a lot of us went wading with our shoes on, but we did'nt (sic) think it so funny when teacher made us sit on benches beside the stove until our shoes and stockings dried, and the rest of the school making fun of us. My oldest sister is teaching school, and two others are married. My oldest brother is at work in a mill at Merrill, Wis., and I havent (sic) seen him for over two years. As I am very bashful, I keep out of folks' way as much as I can, but I can't always. I worried so much over writing a biography when I haven't any, that I became so sick Saturday night that I scared the family half to death, and had them all out of bed before two o'clock in the morning and had the doctor twice in three hours. As they were afraid I would study too much and overdo, they took my physiology away from me and so I have failed in it ever since. As they are afraid I will get sick again they won't let me study much nights, and so I haven't had my lessons this week. |
