Last Friday evening, S.T. Prior, a man well known by all of us, knocked down his wife, a poor, helpless paralytic, and beat her brutally. There was another woman in the case, but we do not know that she was to blame. Prior's lecherous eyes had fallen upon her, and he forgot his solemn vows and allowed his brutal nature full away.
The task of denouncing a fellow townsman is seldom agreeable, but such a cowardly wretch as S.T. Prior deserves no consideration at our hand. There is not one mitigating circumstance, nor a single doubt of his guilt. He has shown himself to be the most cowardly and brutal monster who ever cursed our town with his presence. Such villans are scarce even in hell. A regiment like him would not furnish material enough for the soul of a body-snatcher. Too mean too live, and not fit too die, there is no place on earth or in the infernal regions that would not be pollated by his presence; yet there is no law to punish him sufficiently. There is a warrant for his arrest now in the hands of an officer, but the miscreant has fled, and it is not probable that it will be seen here again, until he is brought back. He hasn't the courage to face the people or his injured wife.
