My great grandmother, Laura Kinyoun Smith, was believed to be murdered by her husband, Louis Smith, on Nov. 26, 1916 in Delavan.
There was a very public trial but he was aquitted due to lack of evidence, forensics being very primitive in that era.
She was a subject of Ada Shulz, a Hoosier impressionist painter, around the summer prior to her death. I have an article of the trial and the transcripts but I want to know what she was like and I figure there were probably more articles than the one I have, and maybe some of them talk about her, the jury statements, the painting, etc. Could someone back there with a curious mind help me to get a picture of who this poor forgotten woman was? My family was unaware of her circumstances until the 1980's because my grandfather, who was the baby they speak of, was adopted and thoroughly sheltered from the facts.
