Seeking information regarding PARMELA FULLER ELDERKIN, b. ca. 1790 at Middlebury, VT, d. after 1860 at Lancaster, Grant County, WI. She was the mother of two nineteenth century Lancaster residents — MIRA ELDERKIN FISHER, spouse of Herman B. Fisher, and MARTHA ELDERKIN HYDE, spouse of Harrison Hyde.

On 20 Jan 1807, Parmela Fuller married Anthony Y. Elderkin at Middlebury, VT. He was a wheelwright (b. ca. 1785/6 Willimantic, CT, d. 19 May 1850 at Madrid, NY). Reportedly, he was 6ft.7in.,320 pounds, “a fine figure of a man” according to one source. Their first child, Elmira L. Elderkin, was born 07 Nov 1807 at Middlebury (d. 30 Aug 1880 at Madrid, NY).

In 1808, the family removed to Potsdam, St. Lawrence County, NY and in addition to Elmira there produced 10 other Elderkin children: Infant (b.1809, d. 1809); Noble S (b. 1810); Mira (b. 20 Sep 1812); Edward (b. 5 Jan 1815); William (b. 17 Nov 1816, d. 20 Jul 1833); Catherine (b. 27 Oct 1818, d. 5 Aug 1819); Martha (b. 19 Jul 1822); Harriett (b. 21 Dec 1824, marr. A.M. Sanford, removed to Fayette, IA); Horace J. (b. 13 Nov 1826, d. 3 Oct 1827); and Infant (b. 16 Aug 1829, d. 21 Oct 1829).

Elmira Elderkin married Velorus Freeman at St. Lawrence County NY and there raised two sons, William F. Freeman (b. ca. 1834, KIA 29 Aug 1862 at Second Bull Run, Groveton Woods, Warrenton, VA,reburied in Madrid, NY 19 Sep 1863) and Edward A. Freeman (b. ca. 1843, d. unk.)

I welcome any information available concerning the Parmela Elderkin/Anthony Elderkin family, especially information that relates reasons for the removals to and stay in Grant County, WI.
