Lanfair Whitehurst is believed to be the son of Batson Whitehurst, Sr. and his wife Elizabeth. Lanfair first appears on the 1800 census in Pitt County, NC with his wife, 1 son and 3 daughters, all under 10 years. On 10 December 1801 (Pitt County Deed Book P, page 95) Batson Whitehurst, Sr. conveyed to Lanfair 150 acres for the sum of 100 pounds. On 8 January 1803 (Pitt County Deed Book P, page 402-403) Lanfair sold his 150 acres of land to William Bennett for 225 pounds. The assumption would be that this is when he moved to GA.
Batson Whitehurst, Sr. was born in Princess Anne County, VA around 1636 and moved to Pitt County, NC in the mid-1600's (he is found on the 1762 List of Taxables. Batson was the son of Simon Whitehurst, Sr. and wife Elizabeth.
Simon Whitehurst, Sr. was the son of Richard Whitehurst and Margaret Nicholas.
Richard Whitehurst was the son of Richard Whitehurst and wife Ellen.
Exactly when Richard Whitehurst arrived in Virginia is unknown, but we know it was several years prior to 1636.
Staffordshire is the county in England where the Whitehurst family originated in the medieval village of Whitehurst near Dilhorne. Earl Davis of Stafford, England says that the Whitehurst’s came from both Dilhorne and Cheadle. Many believe that Richard Whitehurst was from Trentham.
