The statue may be that of Edwin Miller Wheelock, a noted abolitionist. You can read his biography here: http://www.tsha.utexas.edu/handbook/online/articles/WW/fwh11.html Edwin Miller Wheelock is a descendant (son?) of Charles Wheelock who came to New York from Ireland in 1810.
