Jack,
My Welsby line begins in 1817 with the birth of my gggg-grandmother Betty Welsby at Kearsley, near Bolton. Her parents were Ralph Welsby and Sarah Barlow. Ralph was born in 1775 at Middle Hulton, the son of Timothy Welsby and Ann Entwistle.

Timothy was born in 1746, to Jonathan Welsby, a chapman, and his first wife Ann Lomax. They had married in 1739 at Manchester Cathedral, by licence. Also mentioned on the licence was Jonathan Welsby, fustian maker of Deane Parish.

The only possible baptisms I can find for Jonathan are in 1716 at Childwall (to Timothy) and 1717 at Rainhill (to Thomas). As both places are close to Huyton, where you line hail from, I would be interested to know if you have come across either of these in your research.
