Minutes of New Hanover Co., NC, Court of P&QS, September Term 1832, pp. 455, 456)

"Ordered that Washington Collins and John Moore Justices...be appointed Commissioners to take the Certificate under oath of some clergyman and some credible person, as to their knowledge and acquaintance with Jacob WELLS, who has subscribed and sworn to a declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the Act of Congress passed June the 7th 1832, whether they belive him to be 74 years of age, whether he is reputed and believed in the neighborhood where he resides to have been a soldier of the Revolution; and whether such Clergyman and credible persons concur in the opinion that the said Jacob WELLS was a soldier of the Revolution, and whether they concur in that opinion."
