Hi Mary,

I have a little bit of Welling information. This according to information from Earle Wood, who is now deceased:

"Probate records have identified two family groups of Wellings, only one group resided in the vicinity of Bethlehem Church (Mary and Abijah were married at Bethlehem church - ak) Four abutting farms on Toleman Road, New Windor were owned in the early 1800's by Wellings: William, George, Peter and Peter W. (Note that Abijah named his 1817 son Peter Welling Schreder. Note also that Abija's wife was confirmed in 1816 with Peter Welling) The Welling farm-cluster was within 3 1/2 - 4 miles of the church. As of today, I have not identified the household members of this group but the uniqueness of the name Peter Welling in the County records strangely suggests where Abijah's wife lived, prior to marriage, on Tolemand Road, New Windsor.

All of which makes me wonder if Abijah worked as a hand on the farm, and married the bosses. daughter....

Although there were several churches and chapels much closer to the Welling farm complex, the Wellings appeared to favor St. Georges Episcopal Church in Newburgh, some 7-8 Miles from thier homes.

In addition to Abijah's son, Peter Welling Schreders baptism in 1817 and the mentioned burial of a child in 1835, Elizabeth Mary Welling was born 3 March 1834, the daughter of Peter Welling, and Baptised in St. Georges on 15 June 1834, with George Welling as witness.

William Welling was buried in St. Georges Cemetery 18 August 1821; Elizabeth Welling on 26 November 1837; Frederick Welling 12 March 1839; Maria Welling 30 September 1838.....

Since Drafting the preceding text, I have seen the original sheets of the 1820 census. Houses were numbered serially as the census work progressed. Abijah Schreder's home was seven houses from that of William Welling. Since we know William rresided on Toleman Road, New Windsor, I think it reasonable to say Abijah also lived on Toleman Road in 1820."

Earle Wood wrote the above in January 1978. From what he wrote I would assume he had some Welling wills. Possibly you could find a copy of them that might help sort out the families.

I have some other Welling burials from another cemetery someplace, but I will have to find them. I will send them to you when I find them. I also have a hand drawn map Earle did of the location of the Welling farm if you would like a copy.

Where exactly is the cemetery you mentioned? Are there any Schreder burials there?

The Peter Welling born in 1793 is possibly the brother of Mary Welling.
