I need help to trace a George Webster who I beleive may be from the Harrogate/Knaresborough area. In 1851 an Elizabeth Webster married in Preston, Lancs and her father George was shown as a traveller. On the 1851 census for Preston she is shown as being born in Harrogate, also staying with her is her brother, my Great grandfather William Webster, he his also shown as being born in Harrogate, all later census show him born in Preston. When William marries in 1859 George Webster is deceased and was shown as a linen draper. On Elizabeths marriage certificate it also shows a Mary Webster, the 1851 census shows a Mary Webster lodging at an address in Preston but being born in Knaresborough. I have been on Family Search and found a George Webster bn 03/12/1809 at Knaresborough to a George Webster and Ann Oxley Webster, they also had a daughter Frances, christened 25/05/1807. A further search found a marriage of George to Ann Oxley at Knaresborough on 29/11/1804 and Ann being born in 1782 at Knaresborough My wife and I have been searching for George for a lot of years and this is the first real link we have come across due to the children being born prior to 1837 and thinking that they were all born in Preston. If anyone out there can assist or knows any information on this family I would be extremely grateful. |
