Frank, I have worked on this family for several years and I still cannot name Jacob's parents. I can tell you his full name was John Jacob Weist and he married Mary Yearwood in Rutherford County, NC in 1792. Their proven children are Adam (married Sophia Ann Fortune), Catharine (never married), Nancy (never married), Margaret (married Ransom Powell Lowery), & Elizabeth (married Levi Logan/s/o Drury Logan & Sarah Moore). It is possible there were other children the names of James, Thomas, Jospeh Weast appear in a few records that would be in the right time frame for them to have been Weast sons. However, they died before the writing of their mother's will. Mary died in July 1860, her second marriage was to Samuel Rose of Macon Co. NC. Following his death she returned to live with relations in Rutherford County (proven by Court records).
There was a Weast researcher in the 1940s who thought our line came from Adam Weese/Weace of Hamphshire County, VA. Although I cannot prove or disprove this everything else this researcher had has been proven beyond doubt. There was also an earlier Adam Weese/Weace in Buncombe/Burke Counties of NC. He was born no later than 1765 and has the potential of being either the brother or father to our Jacob. I have yet to prove his age adequately to clarify. John Jacob was b. abt 1775. There are some old tales of the Weast coming to NC from VA. So this seems possible. Most of the males I've seen named Adam Weast/Weist/Weiss are either in PA, VA, or MD. The Hamphsire County Wease are know to have landed in PA, moved to MD, and later to VA. There are records of some of those Weese being in NC and returning to VA.
Mary is a bit easier, she is most likely the daughter of Martin and Mary Yearwood of Lincoln County, NC. These go back in to the VA Yearwoods.

Email me directly to compare other notes. Best of luck!
