I am trying to solve a puzzle concerning the mother of two sons of Ernest Whitney Waterbury who was born 24 November 1875 in Washington. The sons were George Roy Waterbury born 16 Dec 1910 and William Olaf Waterbury born 23 May 1912. The Washington State birth index states that their mother was "Jennie Mary Gosselin" (in the case of George) and "Mary J. Gosselin" (for William). Yet, in the 1920 and 1930 censuses, Ernest's wife was listed as "Etta" born 1872 in Kentucky. The 1920 census also lists a son, Arthur, age 16 (for a birth date of 1904), but neither George nor William were living with their father in this census.
Was Etta second wife? Was Arthur her son by a former marriage? What happened to Mary Gosselin? These people lived in and around the Okanogan area of Washington, or in Seattle. William O. Waterbury married my cousin Nellie May Brooks. They lived and died in Gresham, Multnomah County, Oregon. They had no children.
