Hi Eric,

I am wondering what the minimum age was to enlist in the US Army. Ethelridge did not enlist until June 15 1813 at the age of 21. I am wondering why he enlisted during the middle of the War of 1812 instead of before the War of 1812 started? Unless he was too young to enlist?

And why did he enlist as regular army instead of volunteer militia if he enlisted during the middle of a War?

And why did he enlist in VA instead of in NC where he was living? His supposed brothers enlisted about the same time, but in their home state of North Carolina and as militia (not regular Army). See below.

Any thoughts you might have on this would be appreciated. Thanks so much!
Ginger
