p.s.. Eric you keep mentioning that Capt. Quigley already had a pre-existing Company when he "joined forces" with Barrett's, in Aug.1812.
Can you please tell me your reference for your statement?
....the only original source reference which I have seen that mentions the actual formation of Capt. Quigley's Company, states that the men ELECTED Quigley as their Capt. and Barrett as their Lieut., on that very day in Aug.
So, based on your version, if both Barrett and Quigley had pre-exisiting Companies which were active on the day of this "joining forces" ( as you call it)...then what is this election all about? Either Quigley and or Barrett were ALREADY Capt.'s ( which position they legally held until their commission expired), or else they both resigned that day (or prior) and yet then spontaneously accepted the new posts.
So please let me know your source for them "joining forces", because it DOES NOT match the original-source's account.
