Dear Readers:

Recently, I surfed the Internet for information about William Wanamaker, the founding Vice President of the Cairn Terrier Club of America <http://www.cairnterrier.org/officers/historical.php>, in the year 1917. The search lead me to this webpage:

I write to inquire whether any member of this list can shed some light on the Wanamaker connection with the Cairn Terrier Club of America [CTCA].

Alternatively, would you be able to point me in the direction of some bibliographic references to a Mr. William Wanamaker who was alive and well in 1917?

I am also interested in learning if Rodman Wanamaker had a connection with Cairn terriers. In 1918, Mrs. Rodman Wanamaker donated a prize for the Cairn terrier competition at the Westminster K. C. Dog Show held at the "old" Madison Square Garden. The following excerpt might be helpful to interested readers of this post:

NYT 01/27/1918
DOG SHOW LIST TO CLOSE.
No Entries for Westminster Exhibit Accepted After Tomorrow
. . .
"As usual, the dog show will be held in Madison Square Garden, and it will open on Wednesday, Feb. 20, and close on Saturday, Feb. 23. It is unusual in the forty-two years of the fixture to devote the profits to charity, but an exception will be the donation of all the profits this year to the American Red Cross."
. . .
"Donors of special prizes this year include and unusual number of society women, and they are patronesses of both the large breeds and toys, their incentive being to add distinction to the American Red Cross dog show."
. . .
"; Mrs. [Helen Hay] Payne Whitney, Mrs. Rodman Wanamaker, Mrs. [Jane van Middlesworth Bellis] John Philip Sousa, and Lady Hamilton Lang, Cairn terriers;"

Further, the information about Rodman Wanamaker, found at <http://www.wanamakerorgan.com/rodman.html>, indicates that he was John's son.

Any help that readers might offer me would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Sean
