For what it's worth: Over the 1813 - 1828 timeframe there were mortgage and land transactions in Ontario Co., NY, by an Inman, James, and Gabriel Walling, whom I've felt all along were probably the sons of Inman Walling Sr. of Minisink, Orange Co., NY.
A few transactions were between one Walling as a grantor and another as a grantee. For instance, in 1817 James Walling was the Grantor to Richard Walling as Grantee -- perhaps father and son? And in 1819 there were two transactions between Inman Walling as Grantor and Gabriel Walling as Grantee.
The last transaction by James Walling occurred in 1818, so he could well have been Inman Sr.'s son who died a few years later. There were also a couple of transactions by a John Walling in this timeframe.
Later, in 1829 and on, other Wallings show up in the Mortgage and Deed indexes, including: Sheldon, Edward, Peter, Peter Jr., and Jacob.
Some transactions evidently reveal the name of the grantor's wife -- including one where Inman is the grantor. (I only have copies of the index, not the actual transactions. I believe the fact that the wife's name is included in the transaction is indicated by the term "et ux" after the grantor's name.)
I don't know if Inman, James or Gabriel ever lived in Ontario Co. -- they're not listed there in the 1820 census.
