Janet -- Good to hear from you again. These are two different James Wallings. The information I posted on my message to which you responded was taken directly from the pension file of the James Walling who later resided in Middlesex County NJ. As far as I can tell, no one has ever joined DAR based on the Revolutionary War service of this James Walling. Other than the two children mentioned in the pension file, I don't know of his other children. I was hoping that someone else might be researching this family. Although I'm generally interested in most Walling families, my particular interest is in Wallings who were in Sussex Co NJ in the period 1760-1820.
I suspect that there are many Wallings who served in the Revolutionary War but whose descendants have not joined DAR -- perhaps because they are unaware of either their ancestor or his service.
The "other" James Walling (1727-1811) of whom you speak was, I believe, a son of James Walling (b 1705 NJ, d bef 1795 prob in MD) and Mary Delashmutt and a grandson of Thomas Walling and Sarah Elwell. When I was researching at the DAR Library a few years ago, I think that there was a file on this "other" James Walling.
