As has been discussed in postings made to the GenForum, Mary Cox was not a member of one of the Native tribes. She was the daughter of Stephen Cox and Judith Woodson. The Cox and Woodson families are well-established and documented and neither of them were Shawnee or any other tribe for that matter.

There is no evidence to indicate Thomas Walling/Wallen had any Native blood, although his mother has not been definitively identified (there is a tradition, unproven, that she was a Blevins). Elisha Walling has been long held to be the father of Thomas Walling and his ancestry is reported as being traced to colonial Rhode Island and is of English origin.

If you have contemporary documents which indicate Thomas Walling was a "full blood" Shawnee, I feel confident in stating many Walling researchers would appreciate you posting them. Anyone can post a statement online, but without proof, it is without any value. That is why I referenced sources in my postings.

Thomas Walling's mother's identity is not proven and this is the only possible means he could possess any Native ancestry, although unlikely.
