Thomas Wallen b. abt. 1627 was received as a townsman at Providence, RI July 1651. He m. Mary Abbott of Providence in 1651. She d. 1669; he died 1675. Their ch.: Thomas, Gershom, Abigail & James. Gershom b. 1655, Providence, d. 1727 Monmouth Co., NJ. Gershom Wallen is credited by Dr. Stillwell with being the founder of the Monmouth Co., NJ Wallen families. It is not known when Gershom left Providence. the will of his father gives the impression that Gershom was still in Providence in 1674. Providence tax lists of 1687 & 1688 do not carry Gershom's name. In 1688 he received from the proprietor of East Jersey land which was apparently the 240 acres he held in Middletown, Monmouth Co.
