Sorry, wrong John. The Shady referred to by Walter was, actually, Shadrac, who moved to Newton County, Missouri. He was the first, that I know about, to be called "Shade," or Shady, and the others were named after him. The John, who married Eleanor (Elander) Stapleton, lived in neighboring Barry County. Their son, Shade, moved to Oklahoma. For a time, he was Superintendent of "the Five Civilized Tribes". He was on the Cherokee Roll. Ron Couch mcouch@cablelynx.com |
