Help! I'm tracing my husbands family tree and have got stuck on Mary Ann! I've traced back through Walter Wademan whose father was Herbert. I've got a copy of Herbert Wademan's birth certificate and his mother is named as Mary Ann but there is no father named. She is down as a woolcomber living in Keighley, Yorkshire. I found Herbert in the 1901 census (aged 19) living in Keighley as a boarder. The housekeeper is Mary Ann Wademan (50) and another boarder was a John Wademan (23).The Head of the household is a Henry Clark. I am now very confused. My father in law remembers a Great Uncle Jack (John?) who was in the Army in India. Mary Ann appears in the earlier 1881 census, this time as a boarder with a Frank H Wademan aged 5, still with Henry Clark as the head. I think her parents were John & Mary Wademan. He was a woolcomber and Mary came from Ireland. They had 8 children in the 1861 census. If any one is also researching this family I'd love to hear from them.
