John Hi, this sounds like good news. The dates you have are the same as mine, but Thomas and his wife Mary came to Portland with William and Elizabeth on the "General Hewitt" 9th Oct. 1856 by the records of the shipping list I have. Thomas came of his own account, but William was employed at Mt.Gambier, so I presume he was sponsored. I have a somewhat basic tree of Thomas's family, which I did up some 12/15 years ago when researching the family of William. Do you know Betty Vivian who belongs to that family? She lives in Portland and has quite an interest in history. Look forward to hearing your further comments. Regards Joan Vivian |
