I am posting this for a friend in Germany who is researching this gentleman. If anyone has information, we would be very appreciative. None of his children lived.
The man I'm looking for is Heyke (Hayke) Specht, bapt. 10.10.1697 in Leerhafe/near Wittmund (East-Frisia), + 17.06.1775 in Wittmund
oo 1723 in St. Thomas Maria Breyt, a traders daughter from London, born in London ca. 09/1705
they had 2 children born at St. Thomas which died also at St. Thomas.
When Specht settled at St. Thomas he first worked as a surgeon and than he had two sugar mills. At 1751 he sold these and went back to Wittmund with two slaves (one went back to St. Thomas)
Before he settled at St. Thomas he sailed to the sea as a ship surgeon. I think he sailed with ships of the Dutch West India Company (Dutch: Geoctroyeerde Westindische Compagnie or GWIC).
