Claude Osmond Markoe, 1900-1981, St. Croix educator and businessman. Mr. Markoe was the son of George Markoe born 1862 and Frances Elizabeth McEvoy born 1867, both of St. Croix. George Markoe was son of Isaac David Markoe born ca. 1834 and Margaret McCabe born about 1840 - Claude's grandparents. All above are documented; however, information from other family members show another Isaac Markoe and his wife Maria McEvoy as Claude's great grandparents. This is not documented. Neither the latter Isaac nor Maria are found in the St. Croix census records- or elsewhere. A 1972 article about Claude O. Markoe says he was gggg grandson of the European immigrant, Pierre Marcou. A 1976 article (both at the University of the Virgin Islands site) says Claude was a ggg grandson of the immigrant, Whatever the case I can only document Claude's Markoe ancestry to his grandfather. Apparently Florence Lewisohn and/or George Tyson detailed some of his history in their books and I would like to know what they wrote. If anyone can fill in the blanks it would be appreciated.
