Re Vietnam Era Veteran or Vietnam Veteran:
My husband enlisted in 1972, a year after he graduated HS. He was honorably discharged in June 1975.
When talking to people I always say (and I learned this from my husband) that hubby was a Vietnam Era Veteran. He was stationed at Darmstadt, Germany working for the Corp of Engineers. His job was to keep the heavy equipment running at a quarry. However, he's told me that if they needed roads built in Vietnam and his name came up he would have had to go.
I am always very careful to let anyone I'm talking with know that he never fought in Vietnam. To say otherwise would be a disgrace and hubby feels the same way. But, I am still proud of my husband. His military service made a man out of him and I wouldn't change a thing, he's the best.
In 1997 hubby fell at his job and as a result of his accident has a brain injury. As a matter of money, I've looked into whether he could ever receive care at a VA hospital when or if he ever needed help. I've been told he could, even though his injury was not a result of his military service. But I feel guilty about doing this if it ever comes to that.
Anyway, just one person's opinion. My deepest heartfelt respect to all Vietnam Veterans.
