Descendants of John VanSyckel
Generation No. 1
1. JOHN1 VANSYCKEL was born Abt. 1805 in New Jersey, and died Bet. 1860 - 1870
in New Jersey. He married HESTER (ESTHER) A "UNKNOWN". She was born Bet.
1812 - 1815 in New Jersey, and died Bet. 1870 - 1880 in Pennsylvania.
Notes for JOHN VANSYCKEL:
In East/West Amwell, Hunterdon County, NJ 1850 census. John Van Sickle age 45,
Hester A age 38, Mary age 15, Urah age 11, Catherine age 5, and Elizabeth Smith age
86. Was Elizabeth Smith the mother of Hester?? In East Amwell, Hunterdon County,
NJ 1860 census. John Vansyckle age 55, Esther age 45, Catherine age 16, Aaron age 8,
Deborah A age 6/12 and Thomas Wambough age 4. Thomas was their grandson. John
must have died before 1870 because his wife and youngest daughter, Deborah Ann
were found living in Bucks County, PA in the 1870 census as housekeeper for Joel
Bradshaw.
Notes for HESTER (ESTHER) A "UNKNOWN":
Last found in the 1870 Plumstead, Bucks County, PA census with her daughter,
Deborah Ann. Hester was a housekeeper for Joel Bradshaw.
Children of JOHN VANSYCKEL and HESTER "UNKNOWN" are:
i. MARY2 VANSYCKEL, b. August 09, 1834; d. January 07, 1927; m. (1) WILLIAM HOGLAND, December 10,
1853, East Amwell, Hunterdon County, NJ; d. Bef. 1861; m. (2) JOHN T LEIGH, August 1861, Union Twp,
Hunterdon County, NJ; b. April 19, 1821; d. July 09, 1892.

ii. URA H VANSYCKEL, b. Abt. 1839; d. Bef. 1860; m. WILLIAM WAMBAUGH, March 10, 1855, East Amwell,
Hunterdon County, NJ; b. Abt. 1831.
Notes for WILLIAM WAMBAUGH:
There was a Jacob Wambaugh age 48 in the Hopewell, NJ 1850 census with Clarrisa age 47, Wm age 19, and
Jane 11. All born in New Jersey. They are again found in the 1870 East Amwell, Hunterdon County, NJ
census. William age 40, Martha age 31, and Amanda age 8. Jacob age 77 (probably a mistake by the census
taker, should be 67) was living with them. In 1860 Raritan Twp, Hunterdon County, NJ census, William is
found by himself. I think these are all the same William. I think William married Ura VanSyckel abt 1855
when she was 16. She had Thomas in 1856 and may have died in childbirth, being only 17. Thomas was
living with Ura's parents in the 1860 census, so his mother was most likely deceased by than, which would
account for William being by himself in the 1860 census. William probably married Martha abt 1861 and had
Amanda abt 1862. They are found in the 1870 census along with William's father, Jacob.
iii. CATHERINE VANSYCKEL, b. Abt. 1845; m. WATSON WILLIAMSON, May 20, 1864, Ringoes, NJ.
iv. AARON VANSYCKEL, b. Abt. 1852; d. Aft. 1930; m. MARY ELIZABETH (ELIZA) HOLCOMBE, September
07, 1878, Hunterdon County, NJ; b. September 03, 1850; d. 1928.

Notes for AARON VANSYCKEL:
living with daughter, Fannie Roberts in West Amwell, Hunterdon County, NJ in the 1930 census, he is a
widower.
v. DEBORAH ANN VANSYCKEL, b. January 1860.
Notes for DEBORAH ANN VANSYCKEL:
In the 1880 Bucks County, PA census she is living with Mary Edwards and listed as niece.
