I have a question for all of you that are descendants of Bowdewine Vansickle. I was looking at the 1860 Census of Nodaway County, Missouri and noticed the following information listed in the census:
Bowdewine Vansickle age 34 Occupation: Farmer Birth: N.J.
Jane Vansickle age 23 Occupation: Housekeeper Birth: Iowa
Andrew Vansickle age 18 Occupation:Farm Laborer Birth: Ohio
Perry Vansickle age 16 Occupation: Farm Laborer Birth: Ohio
Nancy Vansickle age 13 Birth: Ohio
John Vansickle age 8 Birth: Ohio
Cynthia Vansickle age 6 Birth: Ohio
Martha Massengale age 13 Birth: Iowa
Adaline Massengale age 6 Birth: Iowa
Mercy Massengale age 5/12 Birth: Missouri
These are all listed under one household being that of Bowdewine Vansickle. Does anyone have any information on these Massengale girls and why they were living with the Vansickle's? I am intrigued! Ten years later, Marth and Adaline Massengale were living with the Stephen Renfrow family. Have any of you Vansickle researchers come across these Massengale girls in your research along the way? Please e-mail me if you have. I'd love to know more!
