That would be a good use of DNA to prove a relationship if you can find another descendant of either Bridgit Van Hook or of a daughter of her mother, Bridgit (unknown). I don't have any documentation on Jane being daughter of Bridgit and Thomas Hargis. I did the same sort of testing with two descendants of my sixth great grandmother to prove that I had my genealogy correct. Fortunately, I was able to find another descendant and more fortunately for me he matched. Remember that the last person in the chain of mother-daughter descendants can also be a son of the mother. Mothers pass their mtDNA to both their sons as well as daughters, but the sons do not pass it on. My candidate was a 93 year old son of the last female I could find. Barbara |
