The Chester County Historical Society in
West Chester, PA has a couple of books which may be of help to you. The mai one is "VAN
DER SLICE and ALLIED FAMILIES" published in
1931. It goes back to the original Reynier
Vander Sluyse who emigrated from Holland to
Germantown(Phila.), PA in 1699. His original
ancester was found washed up on the beach by a titled family (Vanderslice translates to
"from the sea beach". He married their daughter, gained the title of Baron, and a
sea shell was added to the family crest to
commemorate his origins. In 1893, the Hague
searched for descendents to share a $50 mil-
lion fortune.-mjb
