I believe that my Artamesa is from the Daugherty's of Lee or Wythe Co VA, and maybe Monroe & Montgomery Tenn. I was reading the History of the Pioneers of Tazewell Co and it mentions Nicholas Dougherty as being a land owner in Tenn as well as VA.

Any thoughts of help will be deeply appreciated.

Can you provide information on the siblings of Hiram DAUGHERTY (c.1804-bef.1868), like him the children of cousins Daniel and Elizabeth DAUGHERTY who m. 15 Jun 1802 in Wythe Co. VA? I'm particularly interested in the parents of Artemisia "Mesa" DAUGHERTY b.abt. 1806 in VA who m. abt. 1830 in Ashe Co. NC to Jesse Jasper DOUGHTEN, son of Daniel's neighbor Joseph DOUGHTEN.

Someone just sent this info to me and thought "Artemisia is almost certainly the dau. of Daniel DAUGHATY [sic], who lived eight doors away from the DOUGHTON family in 1830. Daniel DAUGHERTY (spelled variously, but consistently R before T) first appears in Ashe Co. as the recipient of an 1807 land grant, and he seems to have operated an iron forge on Helton Creek, near the Grayson (VA) line. However, he was not enum. 1820 in Ashe Co. and may have resided on the VA side of the line."
