The purpose of this message is two-fold: First, to inquire if anyone online in Sussex County can tell me if there is a motel in the vicinity of the town of Sussex; or will I have to go to Emporia? I am interested in visiting the Sussex County court house to do family tree research.

Secondly, I want to do research on the PARHAM family. I am looking for any data re JOHN and ELIZABETH PARHAM; her maiden name is presently unknown. They may have married circa 1750s-60s. I've been told this couple lived somewhere in Sussex county prior to migrating around 1785-87 to that part of Hancock County, Georgia, which subsequently became Columbia County and then in 1793 became Warren County. ELIZABETH died in Warren Co, GA, before 1810 and JOHN died in Warren Co, GA, about 1814.

Their son, THOMAS, was born ca. 1770 in (Sussex Co?) VA and died in 1832 in Williamson Co, TN. He married NANCY BONNER in Columbia Co, GA, on 26 January 1793. She was born in (Dinwiddie Co?) VA, about 1772 and died in (Decatur Co?) Tennessee after 1850. She was the daughter of HENRY BONNER of Dinwiddie Co, VA, and NANCY (nee CATE, of Prince George Co, VA). HENRY and NANCY migrated with their large family of 11 of 12 children sometime in the mid-1780s from Dinwiddie County to Hancock Co, GA.

JOHN and ELIZABETH PARHAM also had at least two other children: PETER and NANCY. PETER seems to have been the oldest child and he has been cited as being a lieutenant in the Sussex Co militia during/after the RevWar. After moving to GA, PETER married, about 1794, RACHEL EMBREE, a Quaker in Wrightsboro; he then disposed of his slaves and real estate and moved to Preble Co, Ohio, where some of his descendants still live in 2000. In Georgia, NANCY PARHAM married WYATT BONNER, a cousin and son of HENRY and NANCY BONNER.

On reviewing the text of this message, the thought occurs to me that JOHN and ELIZABETH PARHAM may have lived in Brunswick or Greenville County, VA. There seems to have been a number of people named PARHAM name living in those two counties around the RevWar.

Any info, re motel accomodiations or about JOHN and ELIZABETH PARHAM would be much appreciated. I have much data about their descendants and would be glad to exchange.

Thank you for any assistance.
