I have a question? I queried my files for Wilbourn, but found nothing, then noted that your name was spelled Wilburn.... so I tried it again and found that I did have a John Wilburn, who seems to have married a Phoebe Thomas. Phoebe was daughter of Richard Thomas and his wife Elizabeth Marshall. All this is very "rough," since I have no dates or anything. Phoebe seems to have had siblings: John, Sarah and Elizabeth.
I don't know who Sarah or Elizabeth married, though I'm curious, since there is a marriage of a Joshua Williams to a Miss Thomas... and I've wondered if either of these two might be our gal?
Additionally, their brother John Thomas, born ca 1648 and died possible in 1680 married in 1673 to Susannah Frizzell Portis. She had first married John Frizzell (I don't know his dates) and had a son named Will. Then she married again to John Thomas in 1673 in Jamestown, James City, VA. The children from this second marriage to Mr. Thomas are: John, Richard, William, Joseph, Philips, Barnaby and Elizabeth.
It seems that the son John Thomas Jr. married an Elizabeth Kearney. His brother Richard Thomas married a Miss Rogers. William Thomas married a Martha Robinson, Joseph Thomas married Alice Spivey, Philips Thomas married Ann Unknown, Barnaby Thomas married Sarah Dawson, Elizabeth Thomas may have married twice to John Boddie and then to John Dawson.
I have the following will that sorts some of it out....
Child of Susannah Portis & Jno. Frizell:
1. Will Frizell aft 1676 -
Isle of Wight Co VA Will of John Portis 6 April 1693 - to my dau Sussannah Thomas, wife of John Thomas, land in the Upper Parish for life. Sussannah was formerly wife of Jno. Frizzell, dec, and if she die before her son Will Frizzell is of age of 18, then his grandson , Will Frizzell, is to possess it. If Will Frizzell have no heirs then to John Portis Jr. John Bell, John Prime, Edmund Prime.
Bertie Co NC Will of Barnaby Thomas 5 Oct 1735 - mentions "brother in law John Dawson, and brother, Phillip Thomas."
There is some question as to whether this Elizabeth Thomas, daughter of John Thomas and Susannah (Frizzell) Portis might have married a third time to
Joshua Williams. I have her marriage date to John Boddie as 1708 in IOW, VA. Sons were: William (wife Bennett) and John (wife Jeffreys).
Her second marriage to John Dawson in ca 1721 with son Henry (no wife known).
Her third marriage, IF... I am right.... to Joshua Williams in about 1740.
with children born between 1742 and 1752 with names such as:
Martha, Thomas, Elisha, Temperance, Sarah, and Celia or Celea, in that order.
There are other possibilities.... here, since the name Elizabeth crops up
several times in the Thomas line. So I may have the wrong Elizabeth.
Would you know anything more about the Thomas line, since it seems that
your Wilburn's might have connected with them?
