Will of Charles Webb, Sussex County VA, 1782 as noted in Will Book C, pg 439 and photocopied onto microfilm roll #13 for Sussex County. Copied by Dennis Lane, 05 October 2000. Copied as found except where noted.

"In the Name of God amen I Charles Webb of Sussex County and State of Virginia being sick of body but perfect in my mind memory and understand and knowing the mortality and frailty of all men have thought fit to appoint this as my last Will and Testament and first Commit my body to the gound with a modest and Christian burial and my soul to god who gave it and as to what of this worlds goods god in his mercy has been please to bestow upon my I have though fit to dispose of in the manner and form as follows. First then my Will is that my loving Wife Lucy shall have the lend and use of my land and plantation on which Zadok Bell now lives during her natural life and after her decease that Zadok Bell and his Wife Betty shall have the use of the said land and plantation during their lives and after their decease I Give and bequesth the said land and plantation to my Grandson Jerimiah Bell to him and his heirs forever. Item. And also to my Loving Wife Lucy my two Negroes to wit Tom and Betty and my sMare called Doll and her saddle and one bed and furniture and all my house hold and kitchen furniture only accepting two beds and furniture and four of her first choice of my Cows and Calves and two of her first choice of sows and pigs and seven of the best of my other hogs and one half of my sheep and all my geese to her and to her disposal among my Children. Item. I give to my Grandson Aaron Dun and to the heirs of his body if he has any two Negroes to wit Magy and Chet and one feather bed with furniture but if he should die without an heir begotten by him the said Negroes and Bed to be equally divided between my two daughters Betty and Prescila. Item. My will is that all my Stock of every kind not already given away should be equally divided between my two son in Laws to wit Zadok and Burel Bell accepting my two horses. Item. I give and bequeath to my son in Law Zadok Bell one Negroe now in his possession called Manson to him and his heirs forever. Item I give and Bequesth to my son in law Burel Bell three negroes namely Cupid Aggy and Stephen and one Bed with furniture to him and his heirs forever. Item I give and bequesth to my son in law James Turner one horse called Simon to him and his heirs forever. And I do hereby appoint my two sons in law to wit Zadok Bell and Burel Bell executors of this my last Will and Testament and by these presence I do hereby renounce all former Wills and do pronounce and declare this to be my last Will and Testament in Witness hereof I have hereunto set my hand and fixed my seal this fourth day of June in the year one thousand seven hundred and eighty one.

The last will and Testament of Charles Webb decd was exhibited in Court by Zadok Bell & Burel Bell the Executors therein named proved by the Oaths of John Meglamre John Knight & howell Harris the Witnesses thereto & Ordered to be recorded & on the Motion of the said Executors who made oath according to Law with Thomas Gilliam & John Flandon their Securities entered into & acknowledgeing their Bond in the Penalty of Ten Thousand Pounds conditioned as the Law directs Certificate is granted them for obtaining a Probate thereof in due form
