Paul H. Arnot, The Colliers of Surry Co., VA, 70-71; 88: None of the contemporary Colliers in Brunswick Co., VA named a son Jesse in their wills. The early Colliers did not use the name Jesse, which appears to have entered the Colliers through the Hortons, and suggesting a relationship to John Collier and Sarah Horton. No record of a gift to Jesse or an estate settlement mentioning him was found, but the current accounts of Daniel Collier, dec'd, a son of John and Sarah, listed an account due Jesse Collier. Additionally, Jesse named a son John.
Jesse bought land south of the Main Blackwater Swamp in Sussex Co., VA, where John Collier lived before his move to Brunswick and married a first cousin on the Horton side, Rebecca Ivey.
Jesse bought 150 acres on the north side of Blackwater Swamp, on branches of Tomlinson's Creek, Cross Tomlinson Road and Tomlinson's meadow from Faddy Jarrad in March 1785; witnesses John Landers, Thomas Ellis and Henry Parsons. (Sussex DB F, 389) On 25 Aug 1788 Jesse bought chattels from Thomas Johnson; witnesses Robert Rae, Stephen Lucas, Hardy Cotton. (Sussex DB G, 295)
John and Elizabeth are known children of Jesse, the former from the Albemarle Parish Register, the latter from the 1792 Sussex will of Hugh Ivey. Paul H. Arnot, in The Colliers of Surry Co., VA, 90, added Daniel and Amos Collier as probable children of Jesse. They lived later near Arthur and Moses Collier in West Tennessee.
No exit deed or probate record was found for Jesse in Sussex.
