I am trying to establish the parentage of my ancestor Thomas Hill. He died 1825 in Union Co., SC. His wife was Miriam Hill, daughter of Simon and Sarah (Duke) Murphy. One of his sons was named Green (or Greenberry - shortened to Green). He was born no later than 1765 (calculated from census records) but likely earlier based on when he began acquiring land.

I have seen an excerpt from "Southern Virginia Families" by John Bennett Boddie entitled "Hill of Surry." The descendants of Robert Hill and wife Mary who emigrated to VA in 1642 include several men named Thomas and Green. I believe that "my" Thomas Hill was a descendant of this family. Does anyone know where to fit him in this family?

Hills, Murphys and Dukes all seem to have migrated from Surry Co. into Granville Co., NC and then to the area that was Berkley Co., then Ninety Six District and finally Union Co. SC. The given name Sion appears in both the Hill and Murphy families.

Has anyone made a study of the relationships of these families?
