Hi, June!
Do you have a name for your Cocke family member(s)? The reason for this is that there being numerous ones, of course. For instance, there is a Dr. William Cocke born in Suffolk, England and died in Williamsburg (he is in fact buried in the floor of Bruton Parish Church, Williamsburg, Va.
Then there is the distinguished line of Richard Cocke, born in Richmond, Va. whom I believe (if my memory serves me correctly) is connected with the Bollings and Stith families.
Southwark Parish was for James City Co. to the year 1652, for Surry Co. to after the year 1785.
I would not recommend anyone going to the Surry Co., Va. library to do extensive research, as I have been there and found almost no info on Surry Co. (go figure!). It is a very small place and I guess it does not get much funding or whatever. I do believe they are online, so I would do my Surry research that way. I do want to add that I would recommend driving around as the area is beautiful and filled with quaint places and sights that in my personal opinion are the stuff that million-dollar vacations are made of!
I found that the Va. Room in the Roanoke Public Library to have one of the most vast informational composites that I found almost anywhere while traveling around in Va. And the staff there are so very helpful!!
Hope this is some help!
