These Parish lines used to (and still do) drive me crazy!
I also have ancestors that were possibly in Southwark Parish.
Southwark Parish was seperated from James City Parish in 1647, and Surry Co. was seperated from James City Co. five years later. In 1738 Albemarle Parish created from those parts of Lawne's Creek and Southwark Parishes that lay Southwest of Blackwater RIver. The remaining parts of Lawnes Creek and Southwark Parish were united into Southwark Parish. The entire area of Albemarle Parish incorporated into Sussex when it was formed from the S.W. end of Surry Co., Va. in 1754.
So as you can see the boundaries of the Parishes did change from time to time as did other things. I just recently found out that I might be able to find some of the Brunswick Co. records located in Isle of Wight. Go figure!!
Anyways, I hope this helps a little.
