Thank you, I guess I will continue to look for more information on this line. From your comment I gather you think that John Freeman married to Rachal A. is the son of William and Sarah Freeman?
I saw that Jane Freeman was living with John Maxwell and Margaret in the 1850 Census: VA, Smyth, pg.191, Hn# 674.
But what I found most out of place [as I am lacking some important piece of the puzzle] in the 1850 census, I guess would be Catherine Freeman age 22 with what looks like a daughter Martha S. age 2 in the household of Peter Bishop. I am confused because the marriage records posted state that Catherine Bishop married James Freeman on ?Aug 15, 1850, so was she a widow when she married James H. Freeman. Who, James H. Freeman, was in his parents household for that 1850 census. If she was a widow - who was her spouse.
The more data I gather on this family and the Ashley family the more confused it becomes. Of course it does not help that I have not found John Ashley for the 1850, 1860, and 1870 census. I find John Ashley and Elizabeth in the 1880 census but that one even opens more questions concerning childen and relationships.
ANY odd thoughts appreciated.
