I am trying to verify a connection to the Newton's of Mecklenburg County Virginia.
I am quite sure that a Newton Female married my ancestor William Kirk(s) Jr. He was the son of William Kirk(s) Sr. and Jane Arnold Kirk(s).
A Robert Newton Jr. was a neighbor to William Kirk Sr. in the 1820 census. Robert Newton Jr's father was Robert Newton Sr and he died in 1811 and possibly left the land to this Robert Jr.
My reason for thinking William Kirk(s) Jr. married a Newton female is the fact that they named one son "Henry" Kirk and another son "Newton" Kirk. Also their third son Spencer Kirk (my GGG Grandfather) named his son "George Newton" Kirk.
I am aware of the many Henry and George Newtons that there were. But I cannot find any daughters or granddaughters.
Williiam Kirk Jr and this Unknown Newton woman were listed on the Franklin County Virginia census in 1820. She died before 1835 and there are no records to be found of the marriage or death in either Mecklenburg or Franklin County Virginia.
Other families related to the Kirk(S) are Bowen and Arnold.
I am not sure if there might be a Spencer connection either to the Kirk(s)/Newton families of Mecklenburg.
There also might be a possibility that they were in North Carolina for a short time before 1820 living near a George Newton there before they migrated northward to Franklin County.
If anyone has any information, clues or ideas I would be happy to hear them.
