A child became an orphan on the death of his/her father, even if the mother were still living. Orphans were usually bound out by the Overseers when the mother could not support them. The surname is probably CRAIG, not CRAGE. There is no entry in the Order Books for a single mother surnamed CRAIG who was trying to get child support from the alleged father.

There is another children with the surname CRAIG who was bound out a few months later.

Order Book T, 9 December 1799
[p. 196] Overseers of the Poor bind out Anne CRAGE to Ezekial POTTS aged seven years old the 28th day of May last.

Order Book T, 13 May 1800
[p. 310] Overseers of the Poor bind out Jane CRAIG aged ten years the 24th day of May last to William PIGGOTT. [Hutchinson’s book only lists the date of the loose papers, so no additional information was given in them.]

There are the following CRAIGs on the 1793-1796 Loudoun Co Personal Property Tax Lists:

But some questions remain .... If Orpha Craig who married John Peacocks on 13 Aug 1796 is the mother, why was the child bound out in 1799 if she had remarried? Is the above John Peacock not the same man?
