Thanks Pat! I don't think I've ever seen this item before.
I am chipping away at the identity of Richard B. Guthrie who married Elizabeth W. Hart (Hurt). Both of them died in the 1850s and their children are in the Staunton District which makes me believe they are of the Travis Guthrie line.
Richard B. bought and sold land on Terrible Creek (west of Halifax Courthouse) in 1819 & 1821, respectfully. He was, however, in the southern district for a while as noted in the yearly tax records and I have been unable to find a paper trail to place him with someone. It's looking like he was a son of Thomas Guthrie, eldest son of Travis Guthrie but I can't be sure. If I can find a present day descendant, maybe a DNA test might be in order to solve that mystery.
Richard B. and Elizabeth W. had three sons: John B. who married Martha Frances Fisher, James T. who married Margaret Ann Tucker, and Thomas T. who married Sallie A. Hancock. Their only daughter, Mary Ann, married
John Glass. Perhaps some of the descendants of these Guthries remain in Halifax County. I just need to locate them.
