Thank you Michael. The Maj. John Champe you describe is of the better known Lambs Creek Champs, of KG and Spottsylvania Counties, wealthy slave trader and friend of the Washington family. We cannot establish a connection between the John Champe line found in Loudoun County in 1757-80 period with the Lamb Creek Champes, although many people get them mixed up because of the identical names and very proximate dates of wills/deaths...1762 and 1763. Some people think the less affluent branch may have come from a younger son or a second marriage of a common ancestor to the Lamb Creek family. |
