Alp, I am sorry...you are right that the Park is in Arlington County, now. But, in the 1700-1800's, Arlington city (and county) did not exist. Back then, Alexandria was the only town/village of any consequence in that part of Virginia. One Donaldson family ("country" Donaldsons) lived on the farm, while the "city" Donaldsons lived in Alexandria.
BTW, the info in that Wikipedia article is very questionable and has been revised. The article doesn't agree with the information dissiminated by Potomac Overlook Park officials, concerning the Donaldson family which farmed that land, from pre-1755 until the late 20th century. I visited the park several years ago, and the information packet (which I received) notes that Robert H. Donaldson was the owner before the Civil War.
According to other documentation, discovered in the Webster Donaldson (last living Donaldson on the property) estate, Robert received the farm from his father William Donaldson, who in turn, received it form his father, James Donaldson, who emigrated to Virginia, from Scotland pre-1755.
This kind of confusion just goes to show how history can get real fuzzy...real quick!
